Phase 2 Fundraising

West Side Market Phase 1 of Construction Underway, Seeks Funding for Stage 2

In May of 2025, West Side Market, under the leadership of Cleveland Public Market Corporation (CPMC), broke ground on a $70 million transformation project. The project, championed by Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb and the United West Side Market Tenants’ Association, seeks to preserve the Market’s landmark architecture and family-owned small business tradition while adding new experiences and amenities that will ensure the Market can compete and thrive in the 21st century.

Arcade and a major overhaul of the Market’s infrastructure systems and food storage and prep areas. While construction of these components of the project is underway, CPMC is turning its attention to raising the remaining $18 million to begin the second stage of construction and complete the vision for the Market’s future.

Aspects of the project to be completed in stage 2 include converting the unused men’s and women’s locker room spaces into an event space and teaching kitchen, respectively, adding a permanent outdoor courtyard in the alley between the Market Hall and the North Arcade, converting the North Arcade into a prepared food hall featuring expansive seating and prepared-and-served-onsite food options from local, independent businesses, and adding ADA accessibility infrastructure within the Market Hall.

These additions are layered onto the existing Market experience, which emphasizes the availability of fresh food from family-owned small businesses. This combination of new experiences and preserved tradition will solidify the Market’s standing as a unique public market experience in North America, while meeting the evolving demands and expectations of 21st century customers.

While continuing to work to secure additional funding from government sources, foundations, and corporations, CPMC is launching in November 2025 a public campaign to help raise the necessary funds to bring the full transformation project to life. The investments, large and small, of Northeast Ohioans will not only ensure the Market’s future, but also establish it as the nation’s premier public market and one that reflects the culture of Cleveland and Northeast Ohio as a whole.
