Haslam 3 Foundation Donates $2.9 Million to Market’s Transformation

Dee and Jimmy Haslam, through the Haslam 3 Foundation, have committed $2.9 million to West Side Market’s Transformation Project. The investment will create an area able to host Market programs, school groups, and creates a new opportunity for private events including weddings, corporate gatherings and guest lectures, with views of the Market Hall and Downtown Cleveland.
“The Market’s transformation includes realizing our existing space’s full potential to complement and support our rich fresh food public market tradition,” says Rosemary Mudry, Executive Director of CPMC. “We are grateful to the Haslams and the Haslam 3 Foundation for sharing this vision and for making this pivotal investment in the Market’s future.”
The investment also provided the Market with necessary funding to launch the next stage of construction this fall which includes adding a second balcony in the Market Hall’s east mezzanine for public seating.
“The West Side Market is a Cleveland institution, and we’re excited to help preserve its future as a thriving market, while creating a new communal gathering area for students, families, and visitors,” said Dee and Jimmy Haslam. “We hope this investment in a new space for educational programming, events, and private rentals will support the market’s ongoing redevelopment, so it can continue to serve as a wonderful community asset.”

The new event space, located in a space never before accessible to the public, will pair with the forthcoming teaching kitchen (to be named in honor of Cleveland Clinic) to provide the Market with its first ever program and private event spaces. This greatly expands the Market’s ability to host educational programs focused on the greater food system, nutrition education, and entrepreneurship, as well as private events, which provide key revenue sources that put the Market on the path to financial sustainability while maintaining its family-owned fresh food businesses.

To date, the Market has raised $61 million of the $70 million necessary to bring its full vision to completion. Construction began in May 2025 and has already yielded visible updates to the Market experience, including the renovated KeyBank Produce Arcade, which opened in January 2026. Future updates include the event space named in honor of the Haslams, a publicly accessible teaching kitchen supported by Cleveland Clinic, a permanent outdoor courtyard named in honor of the Connor Foundation, a prepared food hall in the North Arcade, and a completely modernized basement storage and preparation space for Market merchants.
